Gerald Murphy

Gerald Murphy

This Oil Painting is called Library it was made 1926. To me the painting is all about composition and colour. This gives an atmosphere of a library with the dark brown light brown and green etc.  What I like about the painting is that the objects he’s added are easy recognizable even though you can’t see the whole of the object it’s so clear to the viewer as we familiarize it with what we would see in a library.  The way Murphy has composed the painting is the most standout part to me. The placement of the pillar in the middle helps separate the painting and inspire the viewer to look at it differently.
